We first saw Battlefield 3 running on a PlayStation 3 right after E3, when it was showcased on the Late Night Show with Jimmy Fallon. Now Italian blog videogame.it had a chance to stop by at DICE’s office in Sweden, where they got their hands on Battlefield 3 on the PlayStation 3. Judging from the image above, the game looks pretty good on the PS3, even if it’s in alpha. In fact, it looks a lot like the PC version, which we’ve seen a lot of during the alpha test.

E3 is over, we’re back home, and we thought it would be a great idea to roundup all the Battlefield 3 information and news that has been unveiled during the hectic E3 show.

New Battlefield 3 information revealed:

• 3 game modes have so far been confirmed: Conquest, Rush and Team Deathmatch
  
• Squads will hold 4 members, including squad leader
  
• No kill cam (at least at E3)
  
• No “commo-rose” communication command
  
• Players will be able to create custom dog tags
  
• Grenades and Knife are equippable like in BF2
  
• New destruction allows for falling debris to kill enemies
  
• Players will be able to opt out of being revived
  
• New “suppressing fire” feature: players who are suppressed cannot heal and their screen blurs and darkens a bit.
  
• Health bar is back. So is regenerative health.
  
• New classes has the Assault with medic capabilities, Support with ammo resupply ability.
  
• Faction specific weapons (USMC and Russian forces were playable at E3).
  
• Machine guns can be mounted on a surface to increase accuracy.
  
• Prone is back. There is no “dolphin diving”.
  
• Three firing modes: Automatic, Single shot, Burst.
  
• Flashlights can be mounted on select guns and can blind the enemy.
  
• BF3 will have 3 times as much DLC as Bad Company 2
  
• Release date on October 25 on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and later, on Mobile devices.
  
• PlayStation 3 version will include free copy of Battlefield 1943

Battlefield 3 server browser confirmed for consoles

One of advantages PC gamers have had over consoles was the ability to pick and choose the multiplayer servers they played on. Now EA has confirmed that the server browser feature will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Battlefield 3. This makes Battlefield 3 one of the few multiplayer games on consoles that offers a server browser, where players are given more choice in terms of where to play, what maps to play on, game settings, game modes, and much more.

A server browser for consoles was a requested feature from many Battlefield fans, and it finally looks like consoles will be getting some more love from DICE. Hopefully we’ll see more PC features added to consoles, like the recently announced Commo Rose communications interface.

GamesCom has ended, and DICE didn’t just reveal a ton of Battlefield 3 news, screenshots and videos, Battlefield 3 pretty much stole the show (and received the “Best in show” award as well). Here’s a complete roundup of the news at GamesCom, and all the game features that have been confirmed at the show.

General news

• Team Deathmatch will support 24 players on all platforms.
  
• PC won’t have in-game server browser.
  
• …while consoles will.
  
• Co-op was shown, but there is no split-screen co-op.

Battlefield 3 “Steelbook” box images

If you’re getting a Limited Edition or Special Edition of a game, chances are the game will be packed in a pretty “Steelbook” box — basically a cover for games made in steel/metal. According to a Reddit member, who works at a place where they manufacture Steelbook cases, Battlefield 3 will be shipped in these cases at select European retailers.

Furthermore, EA Singapore has released some promo images on Facebook of the Steelbook edition, which you can see in the gallery after the break. Also, the images confirm that Battlefield 3 will ship on two discs. It’s very likely that the Limited Edition retail version of Battlefield 3 will be shipping in these Steelbook cases. DICE talks about weapon customization in new blog post

DICE has posted a new entry on their Battleblog, where they go into details regarding the weapons and weapon customization in Battlefield 3. As we know, there are 50 weapons in Battlefield 3, and each main weapon has three customization slots, which can be used for barrel, grip and optics accessories.

DICE describes how a carbine rifle can be upgraded with a 4X scope and heavy barrel for long range combat, or it can be equipped with a suppressor, fore-grip and holographic sight for close quarter combat. The image above shows the two versions of the same carbine rifle.

Unlike Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3 weapon unlocks are a bit different, as you will unlock accessories (optics, barrels etc.) for each weapon, rather than unlock them in general for use in all weapons. This means the more you play with a weapon, the more unlocks you get for that specific weapon.
