| So...I backed up my ps3 on an external hard drive. If I go trade my ps3 now for a slim, and come home and restore my saved info from my hard drive...are you saying I will have problems...or loose info?

| I think the only reason I lost info or that my info got corrupted was because I tried their new data transfer utility with the version 3.15 that just came out. Essentially the transfer didnt work and wound up corrupting some of my save files. I've been doing a lot of reading on it and it seems to be a very common issue. Why they would release a function that is so buggy and so prone to screwing people's save files is beyond me. I've never done the data transfer with the external hard drive. I believe Almighty did it that way and had no issues. Only other thing with that method is if you have game saves that won't copy. A few of my newer games like Dragon Age and Hasbro Family Game Night don't allow you to copy your game saves. So you lose that info regardless of what method you use UNLESS you can get the new data transfer utility to work. LOL fucking mess Other than this madness I am thoroughly enjoying my new slim | |

| woo hoo new year and drunk posting once again, i think psn wants to make some things difficult when you transfer, like Street Fighter 4, well not psn persay, more like certain companies/corporations don't want to make it easy for people to lend games and whatnot. you know like a proprietory clause so you gotta play it all over, done it 4 times already with SF4. Supposed to be more fun the second time around, Right??? | |

| Its really quite stupid. I understand the companies not wanting you to share game saves and not wanting trophies exploited but figure out a way to lock them to the user and not the damn console. So many people upgrade or those damn things get the YLOD. Lock the game saves to the user that way they can be taken over onto another console.
Its ridiculous. | |

| I wonder if they even thought of that...or if they just had the mindset that Gamer mentioned and was like..."Better around the 2nd time..." -_-

| I agree with muff as to being able to transfer it electronically to psn so you don't have to go through that stuff all over again, like Warhawk and online MW2, they keep all your stats online, Warhawk was the only game's info i didn't lose through out the whole PS3 drama i was going through..... | |

| Most save files are locked to the user and not the ps3 i have been able to copy save files to friends ps3s but when you load the game it won't let you use the save. I have also copy save data from my account on my ps3 to my sons account on the ps3 and got the same message. "The save data was created under another account and will not work with this account" The message says something like that. I keep my saves backed up on a 1G SD Card. Muff just a question I was wondering why you bought another syster instead of just buying a bigger and faster hard drive. You would have to re download everything and you would have to copy your saves to a flash drive or sd card like you already have and restore them to the new hard drive once installed. This process is easy to do but time consuming to re download everything. But i lost no save files except for rock band because it is copy protected. I am now on my 3rd ps3 and only one i have and have only ever lost 2 save files. Doing things they way i said above. | |

| Most of the older games are locked to the user but almost all of the newer ones are locked ot the console. Dragon Age, Assassins Creed II and a whole list of others won't allow you to copy your saves to a flash drive.
I'm not tech savvy and don't even attempt things like upgrading hard drives. I was ready to upgrade... that original PS3 I had, still have, is 3 years old and I just wanted a new slim basically. Even if I had upgraded the harddrive I still wouldn't have the game saves for Dragon Age and Hasbro because their saves are locked to the console. All of my other saves I typically back up to a flash drive. I just hadn't done it in a while so I lost a few important ones like Fallout 3.
I've never actually had any issues with my PS3. It works great. I was just ready for a new one that had more memory. That and I like the idea of having a back up in case one has to be sent in if it goes out.
It wasn't that big a deal. I was just disappointed that the data transfer utility that they talked to highly of didn't work and that the game developers have started this no copy bullshit.

| i see what you were saying i guess i haven't backed up my files since i have gotten any new games to experience this new form of copy protection. That really sucks for me to then because now i won't have a backup save file since i don't have an external hard drive to backup everything. | |

| Yeah the more I think about it the more dumb it seems. I know a lot of the companies are saying "well there's the new data transfer utility to use when you wanna switch consoles" but what about when your console crashes? You've basically lost those saves. | |

| i just read all three pages on this thread and due to really long post already forgot most of the input i had on the subject but heres what i do got...
this thread is the first ive actually seen the slim (one year..no net)...my opinion, the fat looks way better (could be my cheap tv or the fact im way past legaly blind...but still). ive heard LOTS of roomers about the slim over heating but never seen one in person plus heard many of the exact oppisite to. i personaly enjoy the heat coming from the fat...heres why when i lived with my other brother (xpeepersx) trab lived there and they each had a first model 60. we kept them on at all times and kept them out on top of table or shelf (non inclosed) and in the 4 months i lived there (november to feb...OKC"s ice/sleat/snow/rain/hail/blizzard season..also the worst weather ive EVER seen here that year) we only turned the heat on twice. there was no need. the 2 pos3s kept the house pretty toasty and was WAY cheaper on electric.

| sory bout double post..ps3 limits the space n each msg continued
we were born and raised poor and in the ghetto (yes OK has real ghetto, most ppl r shockd to here were not all hicks) so the ps3 was not only a godsend for obviouse reasons but was litteraly a way to save money. no other system has and prolly wont ever beat that. ^ as far as memory..me and trabit have moved and he still has his original backwards 60 and a 500 gig external hardrive (hardrive is usb and actualy for a comp but works(cheaper 2) ). he also has an 80 (aquired in july09) non backwards that the mili GAVE him for bein a war vet. other than the 200 NEW bootleg movies the recent time warp deleted frm the 80 we have nevr had a prob with either. we have over 10000 porn pics on the hrdrve along with many family and other pics and hundreds of porn vids wedding vids etc.. on the 80 i have 5000 or so pics and trab has even more (WAY more) on his 60. he has almost as many movies on the 60 as the hd. the 80 has no vids as i mentioned already.

| sorry again..gotta make my drunk point memory continued.. i have 20 or so game demos and always dnldn more. the 80 has 2,675 songs (stoped to count, mostly lil wayne) 4 of which are me freestylin....had to put that in. then theres all the game save data and trophie stuff on both. my point....do you really need more memory? ^ most of you prolly hate me right now....i dont mind though as far as peeper's 60 he cant save that much stuff and EVERY time he pulls up his players met list or msgs while in a game/etc. his freezes.....been that way since he kicked it while playin in a mvmt srvr around 6 months ago...lol (true story). anyway i havent really had a chance to explore and read forums and find out all the stuff you ppl know (1 year no net) but so far i think i made my point that there is NO actual reason for upgrading to a slim unless you just gotta have the new sh*t. or unless the graphics have improved. but thats just my opinion. by the way 250s are 350 at tinker.
