| I like it... but I already have two PS3's that so far work fine. I'm in no rush to go out and spend another $300 dollars on one. I guess I also sorta worry about whether the small design will present any mechanical issues.
I guess we'll see. They need to do something to compete with the failbox.

| You can buy USB port thingies that have like 5 extra connections. They're cheap...like $15. I have one for my laptop cuz it only has 2 ports and I need like...4-5. Still, there's no incentive for me to buy the thing at this point. | |

If you use an adapter like that, would the PS3 still recognise and differentiate each accessory such as the keyboard, a controller and a headset all in the same USB slot?

| I just fired mine up and one word comes to mind, CLEAN!!! Its actually a tad smaller in person than the way it looks in the videos online. It's very well put together like the Phat, not cheap at all considering the price. The new physical click buttons light up and they feel good to the touch, so you won't miss the old touch sensitive ones too much. I was initially a little disappointed when I heard that the PS logo doesn't turn anymore But after getting it, I realized that its chrome, so its a lot nicer than the plastic ones in the past. It doesn't have the rubber pads on the left side for vertical use anymore either, which I like. The unit is meant to be horizontal, but good folks at Sony will be selling a nice vertical stand for the outrageous price of $24! (pass) ^ The majority of the unit is matte black and thank God, NO MORE SCRATCHES AND FINGERPRINTS!!! The inside of the new logo and upper outer trim are still shiny, which is a nice contrast and still makes the unit look like an "expensive" gadget. The chrome around the "lip" of the unit is a darker charcoal chrome and the logo is regular silver, again more nice contrasting. ^ Okay the differences between the Slim and Phat are: Slim is 1/3 lighter, 1/3 smaller, and uses about 35-45% less power. So the Slim doesn't get as hot or loud as the Phat (my 60GB got loud and hot as hell at times!) It also uses a regular power cord as well due to less power consumption. ^ You can't change to OS on the Slim, so for those of you who installed Linux on the fat your assed out. Sony probably did this because people were hacking the Phat pretty easily. ^ No backward compatibility with the Slim. Many people were making a big deal about this, I'm not one of them. I didn't buy a PS3 to play PS1 and 2 games. Just cop a PS2, they're $100 now. ^ Yes the hard drive is still upgradable, it loads from the front now. For those of you they're waiting until Xmas, there will be a $400 250GB Slim bundle dropping for the holidays. Probably bundled with Gran Turismo 5 or Uncharted 2 or Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. ^ No On-Off switch in the back, just the standby power button on the front. ^ No media card reader, some people may miss this. I liked having it, but never used it. ^ Two USB ports instead of four, again some people may miss this. I did at first until I realized with all the space I have now I can install all my content on the PS3 HDD and I won't have to have my external HD plugged in all the time anymore. So its not a huge deal. ^ Bravia Link, for those of you with Sony Bravia HDTV's like myself, you can now use your TV remote to operate your PS3. Which is dope, so when I'm watching blu-rays and Muffy's porns I won't have to alternate between my tv and the PS3 blu-ray remotes (which sucks cause it has no volume controls). So I traded my PS3 remote in with everything else for a few extra bucks. The Phat doesn't have this. ^ And finally the Slim supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream outputs. The Phat didn't support these new HD codecs and had to decode it internally, which may garble the audio for a less crisp sound overall. This only applies to you audiophiles with expensive sound systems, for us that don't, this doesn't matter. ^ And for the haters like Muffy who sneered, "Well master, why did you get another PS3 if you have one already?! That's a stupid waste of money! You fell for Sony's marketing!! " Well my rationale is that I only had a 60GB and I have lots of pics and movies and music and downloadable games and I didn't have nearly enough space for all my stuff. So rather than spend $200 on a bigger hard drive, I can trade in my 60GB to Lamestop and get the Slim for $150 and have enough space for all my content. And as I said earlier my 60GB would get hot and loud and the Slim remedies all that. Plus the Bravia Link is way more convenient, not to mention the Slim just plain looks ill!!! ALMIGHTY APPROVED 10/10 | |

| i heard that they will overheat easier because of the smallness and that you cant load another operating system on to the slim. (i.e. linux)
just what someone told me.
but the price looks better for new ppl to the dark side..

| The Slim's have a revised Cell Processor with a smaller chip, that's cheaper to produce and draws less power while being more efficient. Also there is no card reader as well and that frees up additional space. At launch each system cost $800 to produce, now its down 70% to $240. So now that Sony is making a profit instead of taking a loss on each system, they can afford to provide us with a smaller form factor at a cheaper price. The new Cell Processor is why. ^ So most think that mechanical problems won't be an issue with the Slim. And no you can't upgrade the OS either anymore. | |

| I will stick to my tried and true 60 gb launch model. By the way the 250gb 7200 rpm drive i upgraded it too has more memory then the slim and is faster then the 5400 rpm drives sony puts in them. I also use my media slots almost everyday. And my son plays ps2 games so i need my backwords compatability. The slim is not for me and wont ever be but i am glad that sony is finally spending less to manufacture the ps3. The only thing that pisses me off is the price i paid for mine at launch. I want 4 usb ports without the extra hardware as well. | |

| The existing 80G models with backwards compatibility have had the price lowered as well. You can still find them online. | |

| Yeah I feel you TX, for my needs the Slim is perfect, for others the Phat is perfect. Yeah Hells, the 80GB Phat is now $300 and the120 GB is $400. I hear that the Phat is going to be phased out over time, so if you need a new one, get it soon. | |

| How many of you got a slim? And do you like it? My PS3 is about full. In fact I've had to delete quite a bit to make room for new game saves and data. So I need a new system with more memory.
Opinions please?
Also... what's the easiest way to get all my info from my old system onto a new one if I decide to upgrade???

| Just a note = THIS PROCESS IS A FUCKING JOKE. DON'T DO IT UNLESS YOU'VE HARVESTED AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF PATIENCE FIRST.
I'M VERY CLOSE TO BREAKING BOTH THE NEW AND OLD SYSTEMS.
It takes forever and its a pain in the ass. Just so you know.
