| They updated the killer, 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro - Audi R8 V10 Performance
The R8 V10, which carries the official title Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro though even Audi refers to it as R8 V10 at times in official documentation, carries a direct injection naturally aspirated V10 good for 525 horses at 8000 rpm and 390 lb-ft. of torque, though the torque peak comes at a stratospheric 6500 rpm.
The powerful V10 is related to the motor used in other Audi V10 models, but it has been updated with Audi's new FSI direct injection technology which has made its way into nearly the entire model range. The V10 midengine powerplant is mounted behind the rear seats but in front of the rear axle, and Audi boasts of the motor's 90 degree cylinder angle and dry sump system allowing for as low a center of gravity as possible. The V10 engine itself also only weights 68 pounds more than the current R8's 8 cylinder motor.
- Audi R8 V10 Styling
Styling cues between the two cars are few. Audi enthusiasts will instantly be able to pick the V10 R8 cars out of a lineup due to the widened air intakes built into the contrasting color "blades" aft of the doors. R8 V10 cars also receive single outlet huge oval exhaust tips, rather than the smaller quad exit units used in the base R8. An additional change to the R8 V10 that should trickle down is the exclusive use of LED lighting at all corners.
LED headlamps, high beams and turn signals in one unit are a first in the industry, and expect this technology to trickle down the Audi lineup. A new rear splitter and beautiful 10-spoke 19 inch wheels round out the package.
How about the price? The R8 V10, or R8 5.2 FSI quattro to be more accurate, has a confirmed base price of EUR 142,400, or USD $181,000 or so in European spec. While Audi has not announced the R8 V10's impending arrival in the states, we would bet on it because of the huge interest in the brand this car has generated. As far as Yankee pricing, there is no way the V10 will carry a price premium of nearly 100 grand over the base model. Industry estimates have the R8 V10 price at around $150,000.
